Program Description

Youth Biathlon is a progressive skills development program for youth ages 9-15 (born in 2002-2008). There are two groups within our Youth Biathlon program: Biathlon Bears (ages 9-12) and Teen Biathlon (ages 13-15).

The goal of the program is to continuously develop and refine skiing and shooting skills in a safe and fun environment through a combination of drills, games and relays, and to provide an introduction to an active, outdoor sport-for-life.

Youth Biathlon is for young athletes in the FUNdamentals and Learn to Train developmental stages of the Canadian Sport for Life Long Term Athlete Development Model. Youth Biathlon leads into our Development Team program or our Teen Leadership program.

The Youth Biathlon program has two seasons, Fall and Winter. Fall season is from September 12th to November 29th and Winter season is from December 2nd to March 11. Participants can register for both seasons or for just Winter.

Parent involvement is a required part of our Youth Biathlon program. This requirement can be fulfilled by helping with setup/takedown at practices, volunteering at events, or by assisting with the administration of the program.

Parents who are interested in coaching or volunteering at events are encouraged to take a Silver Coach workshop and an Entry Level Officials Course.

– registration with Biathlon Canada as a “Recreational Athlete”
– no biathlon or shooting experience is required but prior participation in a biathlon camp, recreational biathlon race or demo day is recommended
