Spring Biathlon Training

CLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR 2017 SPRING BIATHLON TRAINING

Spring training is highly recommended for athletes whose primary winter sport is biathlon. The program involves rollerskiing, shooting, and a variety of ski-specific and general activities which keep training fun and challenging.

The purpose of Spring training is to develop a solid base of skiing and shooting fundamentals. Athletes will build on this base by refining skills and increasing speed in the summer and autumn seasons, setting themselves up for a fun and exciting winter season!

2017 Program Description

Up to five Spring training opportunities are available per week. Sessions are offered in North Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler.

In Spring, we recommend that athletes train for biathlon as follows (based on the stages of development in Biathlon Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model):

– Learn to Train (2005-2007): 1-3 sessions per week
– Train to Train  (2003-2005): 2-4 sessions per week
– Learn to Compete (2001-2003): 3-5 sessions per week
– Train to Compete (1997-2001): 4-6 sessions per week
– Masters (1996 and older): 1-3 sessions per week

This can be met by training with the club, training on your own, or by participating in another endurance sport or activity such as biking, swimming, running or hiking.

At least one season of prior shooting and skate skiing experience is required for our Spring biathlon training program. Exceptions may be granted for advanced cross country skiers without shooting experience who are interested in joining the club biathlon team this winter.

Not sure whether you are ready to commit to Spring Training? No problem! Payment is not required at time of registration so you can register for the sessions you are considering and come to the first session for free. If you decide to join for the remaining sessions just bring payment with you to the second session.

If you have any questions about your eligibility for our Spring training biathlon program or about the training sessions offered, please contact Clay Whitman at clayton@claytonwhitman.ca.
